Marlyne Nayokah Barrett (* 13. September 1978 in New York City , New York as marlyne Nayokah Afflack ) is an American actress of Haitian descent. She gained fame primarily through the role of Maggie Lockwood from the Chicago Med series and its crossover series.

life and career

Marlyne Barrett was born Marlyne Nayokah Afflack in Brooklyn , New York . She grew up in Montreal , Canada, which is why she is fluent in French. Her parents come from the Caribbean island of Haiti. While her parents worked or studied in New York, she lived with her aunt on the Île-Bizard in Montreal, who later died of cancer. For a long time she dreamed of following in the footsteps of much of her family and, like them, entering a medical profession. After graduating from high school, she therefore attended the Collège Maisonneuve , where she trained as a nurse . She made her acting debut in front of the camera in 1997 when she took on a small role in the television film Platinum . Previously, her interest in the entertainment industry was sparked by her work as a visual jockey for MusiquePlus radio station from the province of Québec , where she worked in the late 1990s. In the end, she didn't work as a nurse for a day. In 2001 she played a stewardess in the Canadian action film Concept of Fear and also took on a small role in the heist movie Heist - The Last Coup . In 2003 she was cast as Jasmine LaJeune in the Canadian romantic comedy Love, Sex and Eating the Bones . In 2005 she played the character Stephanie in the comedy film Hitch - The Date Doctor . She has appeared as a guest actress in the series The Jury , Law & Order , Law & Order: Special Victims Unit , Rescue Me , Conviction , Bored to Death , Good Wife , Gossip Girl , Satisfaction and American Crime .

From 2006 to 2008, Barrett played a recurring role as Nerese Campbell on The Wire series . She then appeared in 2007 as Felicia Marquand in Damages - Im Netz der Macht . a series supporting role. 2009 also followed as Thomasina in the series Kings , which was discontinued after just one season. Since 2015 she has been part of the cast of the Chicago Med series in the role of nurse Maggie Lockwood . After the first half of the first season, she became part of the main cast with her role. In this role she was also seen in the series Chicago Fire and Chicago PD .

In 2009 she married Gavin Barrett and has been using his family name ever since. She was previously known as Marlyne Afflack and Marlyne N. Afflack when appearing in front of the camera. From 2009 to 2014 she did not work as an actress after becoming a victim of sexual assault. Since then she has been supporting the non-profit organization La Sortie as a fundraiser, which works to fight the sex trade.
