Martin Richter (born December 6, 1977 in Prostějov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player . In the course of his career he played for HC Karlovy Vary , HC Sparta Prague and HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech Extraliga , for Södertälje SK in the Elitserien , the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League and HK ZSKA Moscow from the Russian Super league . The gold medal at the 2001 World Cup as well as two Czech and one Polish championship titles are among the greatest successes of his career .

Career

Martin Richter began his career as an ice hockey player at HC Olomouc , for whose professional team he was active in the Czech extra league from 1995 to 1997 . The defender then moved to his league rivals HC Karlovy Vary , whom he left after two and a half years during the 1999/2000 season to go to other European countries for the first time. There he received a contract with SaiPa Lappeenranta from the Finnish SM-liiga . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the ninth round as a total of 269th player by the New York Rangers . Initially, however, the right-handed shooter stayed with SaiPa in Finland for another year before he was called to North America by the New York Rangers towards the end of the 2000/01 season . There he scored a goal in 30 games and was a template for New York's farm team , the Hartford Wolf Pack from the American Hockey League . During the 2001/02 season he returned to his Czech homeland, where he received a contract with HC Sparta Prague . With the capital city, he won the championship at the end of the season .

After three years at Sparta Prague - in the 2003/04 season he was also partially loaned to HK CSKA Moscow from the Russian Super League - Richter switched to HC Liberec for the 2005/06 season . He was then reassigned to their franchise by the New York Rangers . Since the 2001 world champion was only on the ice for Hartford in the AHL in the 2006/07 season , he left the franchise for good at the end of the season.

The 2007/08 season began Richter first at HC Pardubice in the Czech Republic, before he moved to Södertälje SK from the Swedish Elitserien . The following season he did not start again in Sweden, but at HC 05 Banská Bystrica in the Slovakian Extraliga in order to receive a tax-relieved six-month contract. He started the 2009/10 season again in his home country at HC Pardubice, but moved to HC Kometa Brno after seven games . After eleven games of the 2010/11 season Richter was suspended by Kometa Brno and later loaned to HC Oceláři Třinec . With this he won the Czech championship title at the end of the 2010/11 season .

In the 2012/13 season he was again active for HC 05 Banská Bystrica. Between 2013 and 2015 he was under contract with KH Sanok , with which he won the Polish championship title in 2014. In 2015 he ended his career.

International

For the Czech Republic Richter took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1997 , as well as the World Championships in 2001 , 2002 , 2003 and 2006 .
