Panel discussion at the Hermann Scheer School

In September 2016, Trefzer was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives, to which he has been a member since October 27, 2016. Political positions

Culture and memory politics

New holiday in Berlin

In the year of the Reformation anniversary (2017) , Trefzer campaigned for Reformation Day to be introduced as an additional public holiday in Berlin. He justified the request of his party among other things with comparable initiatives in Lower Saxony , Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg and Bremen . “Berlin is no less shaped by the Reformation ,” said Trefzer. The holiday is important to reflect on the " Christian roots". Trefzer rejected the criticism of the Protestant bishop Markus Dröge , who the day before accused the AfD of bringing a "meaningful concern" into party political disputes. All the other political groups rejected the motion for various reasons.

Dismissal of the director of the Hohenschönhausen memorial

Trefzer criticized the dismissal of the director of the Hohenschönhausen memorial , Hubertus Knabe , and demanded that he be reinstated and an independent explanation of the circumstances of the dismissal. In this regard, Trefzer's Senator for Culture, Klaus Lederer (Die Linke), accused him of supporting voices that wanted to “tell the GDR anew”. Knabe, on the other hand, had always opposed “glossing over the SED dictatorship”. With the dismissal of Knabe, the Senator for Culture, Lederer, as chairman of the Board of Trustees, " breathed new life into the undead of the Stasi lobby." Trefzer warned "to preserve the foundations for critical discussion of the GDR injustice and to prevent the rollback to an ahistorical transfiguration of the GDR". The dismissal of Hubertus Knabe had "caused serious damage to the memorial", stated Martin Trefzer (AfD) in his plenary contribution. Knabe had "no personal misconduct proven". There are still a number of unanswered questions regarding Knabe's dismissal, such as why Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer (left) did not inform Director Knabe of the allegations of sexual harassment much earlier, according to Trefzer. His accusation against Lederer: "They use the bad experiences of women to get rid of an unpleasant memorial director." In the investigation committee "Hohenschönhausen memorial", which was constituted on March 24, 2020, Trefzer was elected deputy secretary.

Coming to terms with the injustice state of the GDR

Trefzer referred u. a. on the fact that the GDR was a state in which it was not possible to assert basic freedoms , in which the judiciary was not independent and in which there was no free press, but political prisoners. Following this analysis, Trefzer added the question: "How should this state be called otherwise than as an unjust state?" Trefzer called it strange that the governing parties and the FDP parliamentary group did not express this in their non-parliamentary motion on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution .

May 8, 1945

Trefzer (AfD) demanded that his parliamentary group's motion "Redeemed and defeated at the same time" - 75th anniversary of the end of the war: day of warning and remembrance should be included in the agenda. May 8, 2020 had been declared a single public holiday, but no reason was given. It must now be discussed in Parliament. In the request of the AfD parliamentary group, it is said that the historic date of May 8th is not a general symbol of liberation. Germany was "redeemed and destroyed at the same time" on May 8, 1945, a quote from Theodor Heuss .

Science policy

Institute for Islamic Theology

In a guest post for the Tagesspiegel , Trefzer criticized the planned establishment of the Institute for Islamic Theology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , saying that the Senate had "left constitutional ground by reducing the number of Islamic associations on the advisory board". The downsizing of the advisory board caused a shift in favor of the Islamic associations. Neither was there an "amicable composition" of the advisory board, nor did the advisory board reflect the "diversity of Muslim forms of organization" in Germany. None of the associations involved can guarantee that the advisory councils can "act freely and independently", as the Science Council demands. According to Trefzer, all representatives are characterized by their dependence on foreign countries.

The Senate and Humboldt University began negotiations with the five Berlin associations in which most of the mosque communities are organized. In the end, however, only three signed the agreement to create an advisory board. The largest association, the Turkish Ditib , is not included. In contrast, the Science Council stated in 2010 that the “diversity of organizational forms” of Muslims in Germany should be represented on the Advisory Board. Trefzer presented this deficiency to the State Secretary for Science and Research, Steffen Krach (SPD), at a public event.

Downstream Tuition Fees

As the science policy spokesman for the AfD parliamentary group, Trefzer speaks out in favor of downstream tuition fees , which are also included in the AfD's education program. Trefzer argues with references to social justice: It is not understandable why “the foreman (sic!) And the nurse” should finance their studies with their taxes for the better-off.

Giffey plagiarism affair

Trefzer submitted a five-part written question to the Senate with a total of 260 individual questions about the Giffey plagiarism affair. According to the FAZ, such detailed research into a case of scientific fraud had never been done before in the history of German parliament. As a result of these inquiries, it became known that the review committee at Giffey had affirmed the intent of deception and that the first reviewer of Giffey's work, the political scientist Tanja Börzel , was involved in setting up the review committee.

A report commissioned by the AfD parliamentary group to the Scientific Parliamentary Service comes to the conclusion: A complaint like the one that Federal Family Minister Giffey received from the Free University of Berlin for her doctoral thesis does not provide for either the Berlin University Act or the PhD regulations of the Free University. The Free University of Berlin should not have given the SPD politician Franziska Giffey a reprimand for her flawed doctoral thesis, but should have revoked her doctorate. Trefzer accuses the Free University of having invented the "unlawful reprimand" in order to avoid a title revocation and thus a resignation of Giffey. Trefzer sees the FU on the train. She should review her decision at the time. He also brought up a committee of inquiry. A committee of inquiry is conceivable as a last resort if the Free University "does not come to its senses and other means of clarifying the complaint are not possible."

Other positions

Diet increase

Trefzer criticized that the increase in compensation and pension entitlements by 58 percent could not be justified by extending the meeting times. This only brings an increase in working hours by less than 100 hours per year and with the two additional meeting dates from 2021 a little more work. In an interim remark in parliament, Trefzer accused the SPD of taking the destruction of the Weimar Republic as a basis for increasing the diet as a “shabby thing”. The Berliners have had enough of the "self-service mentality".
