Matala is a small town in the Huíla Province in southwest Angola . It is located on the Cunene River . There is a hydroelectric power station on the Cunene near Matala.
During the civil war in Angola fled IDPs to Matala.

Matala is the seat of a district of the same name ( Município ) in the province of Huíla . The district covers an area of 9065 km² and has around 221,000 inhabitants (2014 estimate) According to calculations (2010), 33,998 people live in the city of Matala. From now on, the 2014 census will provide reliable population data.
