Matthew Hussey (born May 28, 1979 in New Haven , Connecticut ) is an American ice hockey player who last played in the German Ice Hockey League for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers .
Career
The Connecticut-born Hussey was selected during the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the ninth round in a total of 254th place. First he played in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a US college league in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , for the university team of the University of Wisconsin-Madison . In 2002 the Center joined the Penguins organization and was active in the American Hockey League in the 2002/03 season for the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins , the farm team of the Pittsburgh Penguins . In the 2003/04 season , Hussey completed three games for Pittsburgh in the NHL and was able to achieve three points , the rest of the season he was used again in the AHL.
While the attacker only played for Wilkes-Barre in the following season, he was back 13 times for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2005/06 season . This season was his most successful to date in the AHL, as the American was the most successful scorer of his team with 34 points. In the 2006/07 season , the left shooter moved to the Detroit Red Wings , for whom he played five times in the NHL, but laced the skates for most of the season at the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.
After the US-American was active for the Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL in the 2007/08 season , he moved to Europe during the season and signed a contract there with Jokerit Helsinki from the Finnish SM-liiga . In the summer of 2008, Hussey was signed by the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League and given a one-year contract. For the 2009/10 season the center moved to league competitor ERC Ingolstadt , where he played until the end of the 2010/11 season. On October 17, 2011 Matt Hussey was taken back as a striker with the Straubing Tigers under contract.
From December 2013 until the end of the 2013/14 season, Hussey was under contract in the DEL with the Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers .
