Matthew Clemasius

Matthäus Clemasius , also Matthaeus Clemas (born October 26, 1640 in Ebersbach , Upper Lusatia ; † December 25, 1702 in Greifswald ), was a German physician , university professor and city ​​physician from Greifswald.

Matthäus Clemasius attended the school in Löbau and the grammar school in Bautzen . He then studied at the University of Leipzig for two years first theology, then philosophy and obtained a master's degree before studying medicine for four years. After that he was the personal physician of the Saxon Chancellor von Taube at the court of the Saxon Elector Johann Georg II. In Dresden and accompanied him on his legation trips.

In 1673 he went to Greifswald, where he disputed pro grad and received his doctorate in 1674 under Christoph Helwig . In the same year he successfully applied for a completed medical professorship, which was connected to the office of City Physician of Greifswald. In 1682, 1691 and 1699 he was elected rector of the university.
