Matthew Amoah (born October 24, 1980 in Tema , Ghana ) is a former Ghanaian soccer player .

Career

In the club

In his youth Amoah first played for the club The Great Ambassadors FC in Ghana . In the 1998/99 season he moved to Vitesse Arnheim in the Dutch Eredivisie and played there under coach Artur Jorge . He made his debut against FC Utrecht in November 1998 and scored his first goal a little later against Feyenoord Rotterdam . In the 1999/2000 season Amoah was loaned to Fortuna Sittard . After the season he returned to Vitesse Arnheim, but left the club for good five years later and moved to Borussia Dortmund during the winter break of 2005/06 on the recommendation of the Dutch coach of BVB, Bert van Marwijk . There he did not find the connection at first because he injured his knee during an international match and was only able to start training late. After Amoah failed to make a breakthrough at Borussia in the 2006/07 season , he moved to NAC Breda in the summer of 2007 and thus again to the Netherlands . In Breda he was able to build on his old form and scored 42 goals in 101 games. Since he was used less often over time, he moved to the Turkish first division club Mersin İdman Yurdu in the 2011/12 season . In the Turkish league, however, he only made five appearances and therefore moved to the Dutch first division club SC Heerenveen for the 2012/13 season , where he was supposed to replace Bas Dost . For the 2013/14 season , the league rival Heracles Almelo signed the striker. In 2016 he played briefly for the Dutch club VV Baronie before moving to RKSV Halsteren in the summer of 2016.

In the national team

Amoah played for the national team of Ghana and took part in five tournaments with them. In addition to three African Championship he was also in the 2006 World Cup in the squad of the national team and was also four years later at the 2010 World Cup in the squad of Ghana. At the World Championships , however, he remained without a goal and failed in each case in the eighth or quarter-finals.
