Matthias Claudius Church

The Matthias Claudius Church is a listed church building in Reinfeld (Holstein) . It serves the Evangelical-Lutheran parish Reinfeld in the parish of Plön-Segeberg of the north church .

history

Today's church building, a single-nave plastered brick building, was erected in 1636 after the medieval monastery church of Reinfeld monastery was destroyed when the dam of the Herrenteich dammed for carp breeding was destroyed. The new, much smaller church was built on the Eichberg to be flood-proof. Financing was taken over by Duke Joachim Ernst (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön) , to whose small domain the Reinfeld office belonged.

The nave has a rectangular floor plan, which is followed by a choir with a five-sided apse . On the north side there is a small rectangular extension, which was rebuilt under the reign of the last Duke Friedrich Karl (Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Plön) in 1737 as a patronage box for his mother Dorothea Christina , who had her widow's residence in Reinfeld, and with the ducal one Coat of arms was decorated. Opposite on the south side, a neo-Gothic extension for the sacristy was added in 1893 .

The interior is hall-like with a continuous wooden beam ceiling. In the west there is a horseshoe-shaped gallery. The small wooden square tower with a pointed eight-sided helmet is on the east side above the altar; at the west end there is a newer clock bell tower.

Since 1940 the church has been named after Matthias Claudius , who was born in the Reinfeld pastorate in 1740 as the son of the pastor of the same name.

Furnishing

The altar is decorated with a crucifix from 1739 with an alabaster body . The pair of altar candlesticks from 1674 is made of brass .

The christening angel from 1776 is attributed to the Lübeck sculptor Dietrich Jürgen Boy .

The von der Goltz family's wooden double epitaph from 1658 commemorates Elisabeth Maria (1647–1658) and Agnes (1640–1658) von der Goltz. The two daughters of the Reinfeld bailiff Georg von der Goltz († 1662) died shortly after each other on January 9th and 17th, 1658.

The bells are from 1477 and 1561; the latter was cast by the Lübeck council casting master Matthias Benningk .

organ

An early baroque organ was built in 1636 by an unknown organ builder and completed in 1644. The prospectus of the Rückpositiv was preserved; it was possibly made by Hinrich Hurdelmann. A raised polygonal central tower is flanked by two flat pipe fields, the round arches of which are decorated with bas-reliefs. On the upper frieze is the biblical words: "Holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts" ( Isa 6,3  LUT ), on the lower frieze: "All that breathes, praise the Lord Alleluia" ( Ps 150,6  LUT ). The top is a blown gable .

In 1890, the Danish organ builder Marcussen & Søn installed a new work and expanded it in 1905. This was overhauled and rebuilt in 1936 and 1963 by the Lübeck organ building company Emanuel Kemper . The organ showed considerable defects, so that it was completely renewed in 2004 by the Dresden organ workshop Wegscheider using the historical propect. The disposition is designed in the style of the 17th century and comprises 21 registers , which are distributed over two manuals and pedals .
