The Suco is located in the east of the administrative office on the Timor Sea . To the east lies Suco Casabauc , which also belongs to Tilomar , and to the west of Suco Lalawa . In the north, across the Tafara River, lies the Suai administrative office with its Suco Debos . On the coast, on the border with Casabauc, is the Asan Foun lagoon .

Between 2003 and 2004 the Suco Casabauc was separated from the Suco Maudemo. Before the 2015 territorial reform, Maudemo still had an area of 42.83 km², but had to give up areas in the north to Lalawa and in the east to Casabauc. These included the places Maudemo , Tabolo and the western part of Cawa Uman . The Suco Maudemo now has an area of 30.81 km².

A country road runs through the north of Sucos and connects the towns of Suai and Tilomar . The place Kuitaok ( Kui Tao ) lies on it . Further south are the towns of Caicoli and Besac Oan ( Mesak Oan ), which together form the Suco center Salele . Salele has a primary school, a secondary preparation school and a community health center. There is a weekly market in Salele on Wednesdays. A Border Police (UPF) base has been located in Salele since 2012 .

In the Suco there are the seven Aldeias Ai-Taman , Besac Oan , Caicoli , Coitau , Fau-Laran , Onu-Laran and Sadahur .

Residents

Maudemo has 2524 inhabitants (2015), of which 1299 are men and 1225 women. The population density is 81.9 inhabitants / km². There are 518 households in the Suco. Almost 70% of the population name Tetum Terik as their mother tongue. Almost 30% speak Bunak and a minority speak Tetum Prasa .

history

East Timor was occupied by Indonesia at the end of 1975 . Many residents were forcibly relocated by the occupying forces for better control. The Bunak in the Maudemos plains came from northern Sucos Cova Limas, such as Fatululic and Taroman . The official goal was a development program for rice cultivation. There were resettlement camps in Kuitaok at the end of 1979.

In the context of the independence referendum in East Timor in 1999 , acts of violence also occurred in the Tilomar administrative office. The pro-Indonesian militia Laksaur involved in it was based in Salele.

politics

In the 2004/2005 elections , Vitorino Tobu Fahik was elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections , Maria Fatima won . She is the only woman in the Cova Lima community in this office.
