Maximae quidem is an encyclical from Pope Pius IX. ; With this circular, published on August 18, 1864, the Pope responded to the letter from the Bavarian episcopate in which they reported on the Bavarian Synod of Bishops . The encyclical is subtitled: "About the Church in Bavaria ".

He praised the Bavarian Synod of Bishops that had been held in Bamberg , at which the plans for the preservation of the church had been drawn up and these had been passed on to the Bavarian king .
