Amantissimi redemptoris ( Latin , "the most loving savior ") is an encyclical of Pope Pius IX. It was published on May 3, 1858, and is subtitled "On Priests and Care for Souls".

Pius IX describes the great inner gift and honor that were entrusted to the priests with the celebration of the holy "bloodless sacrifice" in the mass . The priest celebrates, as it were, the sacrifice of life and renews the death of Christ in a mysterious way . With this apostolic tradition, the divine sacrifice of Mass would be offered by the priest for the universal peace of the churches, for the correct division of the world, for rulers, soldiers, allies, working with the infirm and for all in need.

The Pope traces the divine command to celebrate Mass, through the priests, back to the teachings of the Council of Trent , which would also be emphasized with a letter from Pope Benedict XIV . Pius IX but I see a certain danger in the fact that in some places the celebration of mass would not be held by the priests and therefore the Holy See insists on the obligations of its predecessors. In his further remarks, he urges us to continue to fulfill our obligations with full divine devotion and not to let up in their efforts. At the same time he decided to address this matter with this letter and exhorts all priests to dutifully exercise their high office. He concluded by recalling that the loving exercise of ministry and the preservation of salvation would contribute to the priests' peace of mind .
