Ubi urbaniano

Ubi urbaniano is an encyclical of Pope Pius IX. with which he addressed the bishops of Poland and Russia on July 30, 1864 . He devoted himself to the fate and persecution of Catholics in Poland.

In his letter, the Pope regretted the revolutionary unrest in Poland since 1863 and protested against the imprisonment of some Catholic bishops and their expulsion. He accuses the Russian rulers of having extended their persecution to the entire Polish clergy and Catholic lay people . In particular, Pius IX. the Archbishop Zygmunt Szczęsny Feliński to which in 1863 for 20 years after Yaroslavl was abducted. In his encyclical the Pope addressed the Russian episcopate and described the evil that the Russian government would inflict on the Catholic priests in Poland. He encourages the Vicar General and Coadjutor appointed by him and expresses the hope that the Catholic Church in Poland will survive this crisis.
