Maximilian Reeß

Maximilian Reeß (born June 10, 1845 in Wiesloch , † September 14, 1901 in Klingenmünster , his full name is Maximilian Friedrich Timotheus Ferdinand Maria Reeß ), was a Baden , German botanist . Its botanical-mycological author's abbreviation is " Reess ".

Life

Maximilian Reeß was born the son of a doctor. On the public school in Rheinbischofsheim , the junior high school in Altbreisach , the Tauberbischofsheimer High School and finally at the Lyceum Freiburg prefigured, he received his at the latter school in 1863 leaving certificate . Finally, he entered the University of Freiburg to medicine to study. His later mentor Anton de Bary convinced him to study botany, which he continued at the University of Munich . In Freiburg, Reeß became theDoctor of Philology doctorate . After completing his doctorate, he worked as an assistant in the Botanical Garden at the University of Munich. Together with Anton de Bary, Reeß became an assistant at the botanical institute of the University of Halle at the end of 1867 . He also received his habilitation at the university in 1869 . In the summer of 1872 Bary was a professor at the University of Strasbourg , so in Hall botany professorship was to occupy new. Reeß finally received this. At the end of this summer semester he moved to the University of Erlangen as a full professor of botany . On June 18, 1878 he was elected to the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina .

Reeß researched mushrooms and plant diseases .
