Career

society

Maximo Tolonen was born to a Finnish father and an Argentinian mother in the Finnish city of Espoo . At the age of five, his family moved to England and settled there in Cambridge . In 2011 they moved on to Scotland , where Tolonen first played in the youth of the Glasgow Rangers . After a short time he switched to the youth of Hibernian Edinburgh . There, too, he was only active for a short time. At the age of 12 he returned to his home country and joined the first division club FC Honka Espoo . His club had to compete in the Finnish third division after a license refusal for the 2015 season. After good performances in the reserve team, the 15-year-old Tolonen sat on the first day of the 2016 season against Tampereen Pallo-Veikot for the first time in a championship game on the bench, where he was not used. He made his debut in the Kakkonen Süd a month later when he came into the game in the 84th minute for Elias Tuomela in a 3-0 away win over FC Viikingit . On matchday 20 he was substituted on again in the 3-1 home win against Tampereen Pallo-Veikot and in the following game against FC Kiffen 08 Helsinki he was on the field for the first time from the start. These three appearances were the only ones in his first season in professional football. FC Honka won 19 of its 22 league games this season and rose to a superior position, 13 points ahead of second-placed Tampereen PV, in the second-class Ykkönen .

On September 14, 2016, he scored his first competitive goal in the cup match against Malmin Ponnistajat . At the beginning of the 2017 season , Maximo Tolonen was used in all league games, but he was usually only substituted in the final minutes. In the 5-0 home win over Grankulla IFK , he was able to prepare the 4-0 through Rony Huhtala . On March 18, he shot his team with a goal in the quarter-finals of the Finnish Cup against FF Jaro in the semifinals, where they ultimately failed to Seinäjoen JK . In the historic 10-0 away win on the penultimate matchday of the 2017 season over Oulun Palloseura , he scored his first goal in the 55th minute. Shortly before the end, he achieved the final score with his second goal of the day. FC Honka ranked 2nd in the table and then defeated Helsingfors IFK in the relegation . This made it possible to march straight through from the third to the first division.

On December 5, 2017, FC Honka confirmed that Maximo Tolonen will not extend his expiring contract and will therefore leave the club free of charge at the end of 2017. Just 12 days later, he signed a two-year contract with Seinäjoen JK. He made his debut for his new club on February 2, 2018 in a 2-1 cup win against Kokkolan Palloveikot . On February 10, he netted in the 4-0 home win in the Cup against Tampereen Pallo-Veikot for the first time for Seinäjoki and he met again in the 1-1 draw at FF Jaro. He played his first game in the Veikkausliiga on April 7, 2018 in a 0-1 home defeat against PS Kemi . In the 2018 season , the young midfielder played 14 league games and was also active for the reserve team in the Kakkonen. There he met five times in five games and prepared another hit. In the following game year 2019, he again commuted between the first and reserve team. He was used in 16 league games for the A selection, in which he scored one goal and assisted one.

For the 2020 season he joined the league competitor IFK Mariehamn on a free transfer , where he signed a one-year contract with an option for another.

National team

In the Finnish U-17 national team , Tolonen debuted on June 28, 2016 in the U-17 Baltic Cup against Estonia . Just two days later, he marked a hat trick against the Latvian selection . In the 2: 6 defeat in the qualifier for the U-17 European Football Championship 2017 against Germany , he scored both goals for his home country. Three days later, he scored twice in the 5-0 win in Armenia and set up a goal.

On June 4, 2018, he made his debut in a 3-0 home win in a friendly against Montenegro for the U-19s . For the U-19 European Football Championship 2018 in his home country, however, Tolonen was not taken into account.
