action

Mike Dooley and his dog Jerry Lee continue to serve in the Los Angeles Police Department . Dooley's wife Tracy has since passed away. Dooley pursues a criminal but has to escape exhausted. Jerry Lee is no help either, he's afraid to jump. Dooley's boss, Captain Roger Byers, believes that both Dooley and Jerry Lee are in poor physical shape. Medical examinations confirm this assumption, the vet prescribes Jerry Lee a senior diet for dogs, but Dooley still prefers to eat hot dogs, chilli and gummy bears.

Dooley is assigned a new partner, the policewoman Welles, who leads the Doberman Zeus , who was trained in the Netherlands . Dooley and Welles have had an affair in the past; Welles claims to regret this. Dooley tries to show his partner that she and her dog are not particularly useful. Among other things, he and Welles argue over who should use the front entrance and who should use the back entrance if both of them want to visit and interrogate a criminal.

Dooley is molested by Devon Lane, a psychopath who seeks revenge for his alleged humiliations. Lane calls Dooley and bombards his house from a sniper rifle , but only applies Dooleys beer can. First, an "ex-con" is suspected, who Dooley once arrested and who has been paroled from prison. He owns a dozen firearms, but turns out to be innocent and even thanks Dooley for putting his criminal brother in jail. When Dooley and Welles want to interrogate an arms dealer, there is a shooting, Dooley's car is destroyed with a rocket launcher, Dooley follows the arms dealer on a bicycle and arrests him. The psychopath is identified as Devon Lane, who years ago submitted the manuscript of a detective novel to Dooley's wife, who worked as an editor. The publication of the novel was rejected at the time. Dooley is still deeply affected by the death of his wife, Wells consoles him "every person dies once". Dooley and Welles spend a few nice hours together at Dooley's home, Dooley wins his trust in Welles Doberman Zeus with a slice of pizza and a walk for a walk. Welles oversleeps Dooley's cooking skills and when he tries to serve her breakfast she is gone.

Devon Lane now wants to finish his work, he penetrates the police station and takes Welles hostage. Dooley appears with Jerry Lee and Zeus in tow, after an exchange of fire Lane escapes to the roof of the building, Dooley pursues him, Lane overpowers Dooley, shoots him in the leg and wants to shoot Dooley. Jerry Lee overcomes his fear, jumps on the criminal and thus saves his master's life. Lane is arrested and Dooley is taken to the hospital, where he is later picked up by Welles and the dogs and Dooley and Welles discuss whether they should go out to eat Chinese or Italian.
