action

Policeman Mike Dooley and his German Shepherd Jerry Lee are entering their well-deserved retirement. Unexpectedly, the two arrive late in the evening when an IT company is broken into. Dooley and Jerry Lee surprise the intruders and pursue them as they flee. After an exchange of fire in a warehouse, the FBI suddenly appears and arrests Dooley. He is suspected of being an accomplice of the perpetrators. As a consequence, his pension will be “frozen” until the incident has been resolved. As a result, Dooley has a massive financial problem and tries to borrow money first. After he was unsuccessful, he got the idea to offer his dog for breeding. He gets to know Catherine and her German shepherd Molly.

Mike Dooley decides to work as a private investigator. He receives his first assignment from Laura Fields. She has been missing her fiancé Kevin Wingate for a week. Before Dooley can deal with this case, however, his own problem catches up with him. He tries to find the burglars on his own in order to rehabilitate himself and keep his pension rights. The thieves stole a valuable computer chip on behalf of a customer . As a newly developed prototype , it is not only valuable, but also gives the owner an innovative edge in the computer industry. However, a total of four chips belong together, one of which happens to come into Dooley's possession.

Dooley's first lead leads to Billy Cochran, a small drug dealer who found out about a fire at the company that had been robbed a year ago. From him Dooley receives the reference to Charles Thyer, whom Dooley cannot find at first. But he finds out about Kevin Wingate that he has been dead for years and that Field's fiancé only used this name. After Dooley explains to his client that her fiancé is not who he claimed to be and obviously does not want to be found, this case is closed for him.

In the meantime, Billy Cochran is shot by Thyer so that Thyer cannot reveal anything more about him. Since Dooley was last seen with Cochran, he is also under suspicion in this case. His former boss summons him and Dooley learns that Thyer has multiple identities, including appearing as Kevin Wingate. Known as an industrial terrorist, it is believed that he was the burglar at Microlabs and stole the chips. In order for Dooley to prove his innocence, his former boss gives him permission to work on the case.

In order to get in contact with Thyer, he offers his chip for sale via "Unterweltkontakte". It doesn't take long and he receives an offer. So he manages to meet with Thyer. As a precaution, he leaves Jerry Lee in the car and hopes that the dog will come to his aid on a signal. However, this does not work as expected. Instead, Laura Fields appears and shoots Thyer. Now she reveals her true colors, because she has chosen Thyer to steal the chips for her. But then Thyer wanted to do the business alone and disappeared, which is why Fields hired Dooley to find Thyer.

Laura Fields lets Dooley hand her the chip, but before she can shoot Dooley, Jerry Lee appears and Fields is arrested. Dooley gets his well-deserved pension back and makes plans for his retirement again. Molly has now had her puppies and Dooley can choose one of the puppies.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a "second infusion of the crime comedy about the unusual duo". He "only copied the specifications of the predecessor" and offered "hardly anything independent".

Janet Branagan wrote in the Apollo Movie Guide that the film offered no surprises. Films like this one would not fascinate the audience enough to “stick to the screen”, but they would make the audience “happy”.

Awards

Gary Basaraba, Barbara Tyson, Gary Scott Thompson as screenwriter and cinematographer Roy H. Wagner were nominated for the DVD Premiere Award in 2003 .
