My Stranger Girlfriend is a German film drama by Stefan Krohmer from 2017 , which was produced for Das Erste . The first broadcast took place on November 8, 2017 as a Wednesday film in the Erste as part of the theme evening Sexual Coercion, Lies and Prejudices on ARD .

Judith Lorenz starts her job in the Hanoverian health department and quickly makes friends with her new colleague Andrea Bredow. Her male colleague Volker Lehmann constantly makes ambiguous comments and sexual allusions to her. One of his former colleagues had previously resigned from the office because of this behavior. When Lorenz is sorting something in the filing room alone, Lehmann comes in, criticizes her work and stands very close to her. She later told her colleague that Lehmann raped her . Bredow encourages her to introduce her boss, Dr. Report to Gonzor and report it to the police. Volker Lehmann is then suspended pending legal clarification. After he tried to force himself into Lorenz's apartment, he was arrested.
Judith Lorenz contradicts herself in her stories about this and other events, and her colleague first doubts. Lehmann denies the allegations and appears psychologically attacked while in custody. He is found guilty of rape. While he is serving his prison sentence, Bredow has more and more doubts because of the contradicting information about her friend's life and her sometimes incomprehensible behavior.
When she finds out that Lorenz has just made up the relationship with a man and many other things, Bredow arranges for her husband to represent a lawyer, Lehmann, and to have the proceedings reopened. In the second trial, Lehmann is acquitted of the charge of rape. After his release, he had a heart attack while cycling and died.

My stranger friend was shot under the working title The Lie of Her Life from February 14, 2017 to March 15, 2017 in and around Hanover. Polyphon Film- und Fernsehgesellschaft mbH was responsible for the film .
The film takes up some elements of Horst Arnold's miscarriage of justice in 2002.
criticism
Heike Hupertz from the FAZ thinks that the film is “a factual, yet refined lesson about the necessity of carefully examining cases of sexualised violence that seem to be very obvious.” There is no direct path from man's joke to physical humiliation.
Heike Kunert is of the opinion that it is not primarily a question of addressing sexual abuse, but rather of drawing the psychogram of a woman with a histrionic personality disorder , i.e. a notorious liar. Director Krohmer shows "[g] completely unpretentious [...] the ambivalence of human characters"
Christian Busse from Spiegel points out that the dissolution of role ascriptions, even if this happens without false relativism, still carries a “residual risk” “in times when male interest groups try to undermine the credibility of rebellious women”. The structural sexism in the world of work is not denied with a strong female main character who does not fit into the common victim pattern.
