MeteoNews is a private Swiss weather service headquartered in Zurich . It was founded in 1997 by Peter Wick and has since developed into one of the leading weather providers in Switzerland. The focus is on print media and radio stations. A branch for French-speaking Switzerland has existed since 1999. Since 2003, the company has had branches in Dijon and Paris to support its French customers.

MeteoNews is a member of the Association of Swiss Meteo Providers SMA.

Companies

MeteoNews employs over 40 people, including mainly meteorologists , moderators , graphic designers and IT experts. Around 30 employees work in Zurich, the rest in French-speaking Switzerland and France. MeteoNews creates its forecasts in a complex model from numerical weather forecast , statistical values ​​and the manual inputs of the meteorologists. The company obtains measured values ​​from the state weather service MeteoSwiss and from private weather stations . In 2007, a television studio was set up at the headquarters in Zurich , in which meteorologists and presenters record weather broadcasts for web and TV. The studio was upgraded to HD in 2015 .

Services

In addition to the classic weather forecast , MeteoNews also offers leisure and bio weather as well as severe weather warnings . One focus is on regionally detailed forecasts for regional media (e.g. regional television or radio stations in Switzerland).

MeteoNews creates forecasts for numerous media customers in France , Switzerland , Liechtenstein and Luxembourg . Most customers come from the fields of television (e.g. TeleZüri or TeleBärn ), radio (e.g. Radio 24 , Radio 1 , Radio Argovia or Radio Pilatus ) and newspapers (e.g. Tages-Anzeiger , Der Bund , Basler Zeitung , Blick , 20 minutes , Liechtensteiner Volksblatt , Le Monde ). There are also various large and small Internet portals (e.g. Swisscom , Michelin ).

In May 2010 MeteoNews launched its own online weather television for German-speaking Switzerland, which now also broadcasts (un) moderated forecasts for France, Germany and other countries that are not only specialized in Europe.

From April 27, 2016 to December 1, 2017, meteonews.TV was the first pure weather channel in Switzerland to broadcast daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on TV25 . The classic weather shows were supplemented here by national and international weather images, weather reports and seasonal weather content.

On December 1st, meteonews.TV was renamed wetter.tv and now broadcasts for 24 hours.
