The metropolitan area of Columbus (ger .: Columbus metropolitan area ) is a metropolitan area in the US states Georgia and Alabama . It represents a Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) defined by the Office of Management and Budget and includes the counties of Chattahoochee , Harris , Marion and Muscogee (Georgia) as well as Russell (Alabama). The center of the area is the city of Columbus .

At the time of the 2010 census , the area had 296,506 residents.
