Location of Meuselsberg in Bavaria

Meuselsberg is a hamlet with 16 inhabitants and a district of Burgkunstadt in the Lichtenfels district .

Geographical location and geology

Meuselsberg is located on the southern slope ("Hainweiherer Berg") on a plateau in the Upper Main region of Bruchschollenland , about one kilometer north of the center of Burgkunstadt.

Less than a kilometer east of the hamlet is a small, old, abandoned quarry. In earlier centuries the Rhaetian sandstone , which dominates the mountain, was broken there, forming a transition layer between the upper Keuper and the Lias . Nowadays the quarry is freely accessible, but mostly overgrown. It enjoys the protection status of a natural monument and is classified as geoscientifically valuable by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment .

history

When Meuselsberg was founded is unclear. There are also hardly any or no records of the settlement from the Middle Ages and the early modern period , as Meuselsberg was never the seat of a noble family and was never owned by a church.

The first mention was in 1820 as belonging to Burgkunstadt.

To the north of the hamlet there is a drinking water well of the city of Burgkunstadt, which is to be closed in the following years due to various, sometimes borderline water pollution. This also enables the construction of three small sewage treatment plants , through which the problematic wastewater disposal of Meuselsberg is to be solved. Since the groundwater could be at least slightly polluted by the small sewage treatment plants, construction of the sewage treatment plants would not be possible if the well remained connected to the network.
