Michael Antwon Bennett (born August 13, 1978 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is a retired American football player . He played in the position of running back in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as the 27th player in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft . He was one of the fastest runners in the NFL, taking only 4.13 seconds in the 40-yard sprint on Pro Day , the second-best value in NFL history behind Bo Jackson , who took just 4.12 seconds.

Minnesota Vikings

Bennett was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the first round of the 2001 NFL Draft . As a rookie , Bennett was already a starter after the Vikings' previous running back Robert Smith unexpectedly resigned. In the 2002 season , Bennett ran 1,296 yards and caught for 351 yards, which brought him to the Pro Bowl . However, afterwards his career stalled due to an injury. The Vikings sacked Bennett at the end of the 2005 season due to an ongoing injury and handling problems with the ball.

New Orleans Saints

2006 signed the New Orleans Saints Bennett as a substitute for Deuce McAllister . After the Saints signed Reggie Bush in the 2006 NFL Draft , they traded Bennet for a four-round pick for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kansas City Chiefs

Bennett spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs .

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

On October 16, 2007, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed by the Chiefs after two running backs Carnell Williams and Michael Pittman injured themselves . On February 15, 2008, Bennett was re-engaged by the Buccaneers. He was released again on November 11, 2008.

San Diego Chargers

On November 12, 2008, Bennett was signed by the San Diego Chargers . He was released on March 19, 2010.

Oakland Raiders

Bennett signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders on May 6, 2010 . He was released on September 5, 2011.

Bennett is the nephew of former Green Bay Packer and Indianapolis Colts linebacker / defensive end Tony Bennett .
