Dal Colle began his career in the youth team Vaughan Kings , which he led in his last two seasons as team captain. In the 2011/12 season, the team made it into the OHL Cup , a junior tournament of the Ontario Hockey League , which Dal Colle finished with eleven points from five games as the third-best scorer. He then moved to the St. Michael's Buzzers in the second-rate Ontario Junior Hockey League for five games , before he was selected in the OHL Priority Selection 2012 by the Oshawa Generals in seventh overall position.

In his debut 2012/13 season , the striker scored 48 points in 63 missions and was elected to the OHL's all-rookie team. In the following season he increased his point yield significantly and finished the season with 95 points as the top scorer of the generals and sixth best scorer in the league. Before the 2014 NHL Entry Draft , he was ranked third in the International Scouting Services . In the subsequent draft, the New York Islanders selected him in fifth position.

On an international level, Dal Colle won the gold medal with the Canadian team at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 . He also represented his home province of Ontario at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge that same year.

In 2015 he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup with the Oshawa Generals and was appointed to the OHL Third All-Star Team . The Generals also won the subsequent Memorial Cup 2015 , with Dal Colle being elected to the all-star team of the tournament.

In January 2016, Dal Colle moved within the OHL to the Kingston Frontenacs , who in return gave Robbie Burt and four voting rights for the OHL Priority Selection to the generals. In Kingston, the attacker ended the OHL season and then switched to the organization of the New York Islanders, where he made his professional debut a little later for their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League (AHL).

In January 2018, the attacker made his debut for the Islanders in the National Hockey League (NHL).
