Michael Evans (* 27. July 1920 as John Michael Evans in Sittingbourne , Kent , † 4. September 2007 in Woodland Hills , California ) was a British actor .

Life

Evans decided to become an actor at a young age, his role model was John Gielgud . After the end of World War II, during which he served as a navigator in the Royal Air Force , he completed an acting degree at the Old Vic . He had his first appearances in 1948 at the theaters of the West End . In 1950 he played a small role in a British feature film, in the same year he moved to New York City , where he made the jump to Broadway in Ring Round the Moon with Harry Belafonte in the lead role. He played, among other things, in Gigi at the side of Audrey Hepburn and played the lead role of Professor Higgins in My Fair Lady .

In 1963 Evans got a role in the musical film adaptation Bye Bye Birdie with Dick Van Dyke and Janet Leigh . He then moved permanently to Hollywood , where he began a career as a television actor. By the end of the 1970s he appeared in guest roles in various successful television series such as Solo for ONKEL , Tennis Rackets and Cannons and Mannix . He only played occasionally in feature films, including the western A Thousand Guns for Golden Hill with Leslie Nielsen and Don Murray , and the war film Alarmstart for Geschwader Braddock .

From 1980 Evans played the role of Colonel Douglas Austin in the US soap opera Shadow of Passion . With a break between 1985 and 1987, he played this role until 1995.
