Michael Nagy

Michael Nagy (* 1976 ) is a German concert, opera and oratorio singer ( baritone ) and conductor .

Life

Michael Nagy has Hungarian ancestors. He received his first musical training from the Stuttgart Hymn Choir Boys . He studied singing with Rudolf Piernay , song design with Irwin Gage and conducting with Klaus Arp and Georg Grün . He also attended master classes with Charles Spencer and Cornelius L. Reid . The music teacher Helmuth Rilling followed and encouraged the singer's development from an early age.

As a singer, he initially worked for two seasons in the ensemble of the Komische Oper Berlin . From 2006 to 2011 he was engaged at the Frankfurt Opera, where he took on numerous roles and as Hans Scholl in Udo Zimmermann's White Rose , as Wolfram in Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser , as Valentin in Charles Gounod's Faust , as Jeletzki in Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Pique Dame , as Marcello in Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème , as Albert in Jules Massenet's Werther , as Frank and Fritz in Erich Wolfgang Korngold's Die tote Stadt , as Owen Wingrave in Benjamin Britten 's television opera of the same name , as Jason in Aribert Reimann's Medea and as notary Dr. Falke debuted in Johann Strauss' Fledermaus .

Guest engagements have taken him to the Oslo Opera House , the Deutsche Oper Berlin , the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and the Theater an der Wien (title role in Hans Heiling ).

In the summer of 2011 he made his debut as Wolfram in Richard Wagner's Tannhäuser at the 100th  Bayreuth Festival , and in March 2012 he was heard on Deutschlandfunk with a recital . In 2013 he was heard with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Simon Rattle as Papageno in Mozart's Magic Flute , which was also released in the Digital Concert Hall . In 2016 he could be seen again as Papageno at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden .

In February 2017 Nagy took on the title role in an opera about Edward II at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (libretto based on Marlowe by Thomas Jonigk ) (musical direction: Thomas Søndergård , staging: Christof Loy ).

Prices

Michael Nagy was a federal prize winner at Jugend musiziert in the areas of singing and song accompaniment. In 2004 he and the pianist Juliane Ruf won first prize at the International Competition for Lied Art of the International Hugo Wolf Academy in Stuttgart.
