Michael Nemeth

Michael Alexander Maria Nemeth (born October 10, 1978 in Graz ) is an Austrian cultural manager and musicologist .

Life

After graduating from the Bundesgymnasium Stift Rein, Michael Nemeth studied musicology and cultural management at the Karl-Franzens University in Graz . Graduation and diploma thesis in 2003 in historical musicology was done on the subject of Beethoven's reception in Graz in the early 19th century with special consideration of his symphonies and the Graz concert industry with Josef-Horst Lederer and Michael Walter . This was followed by a doctorate in musicology at the University of Vienna with Gernot Gruber and Theophil Antonicek , with a doctorate and dissertation prize in 2005 on the subject of opera history beyond the routine: The Graz Opera House under the direction of Carl Nemeth 1972–1990. Michael Nemeth documented the management time of his father Carl Nemeth , which accounts for a fifth of the history of the Graz Opera House . 165 premieres and their preparation were documented on the basis of reviews, images and letters. At the Johann Joseph Fux Conservatory in Graz Michael Nemeth was trained in the violin, then trumpet lessons at the Music and Art School Gratkorn, where he worked in different musical formations.

Michael Nemeth gained professional experience in music management during his studies. After completing the “UniUn” course for young company founders, he completed internships at the Vienna Klangbogen Festival , at the Vienna State Opera (directorate Ioan Holender ) and at the Federal Theater Holding. After a short job as orchestra manager of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , Michael Nemeth worked for the Erich Seitter stage agency (audition organization and artist support). As a dramaturge, Nemeth u. a. for the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) or the opera-air film festival Classics in the city in the Grazer Landhaushof , where he also worked as a presenter.

From 2002 onwards, Nemeth led the concerts he revived in the historic Graz city park pavilion, where he organized around 100 concerts from the fields of classical, jazz and brass music. In this context, the founding of the Con Fuoco chamber orchestra with young musical talents, which has since performed at home and abroad, was also sustainable. The series “Amabile”, also founded by Nemeth, on the occasion of the restoration of the orangery in Graz's Burggarten, where u. a. Members of the Vienna Philharmonic had to be reinstated after just one year. In 2010, Nemeth launched MUSIK: TAGE Graz, where young musical talents are promoted and presented in a workshop. In January 2016 Michael Nemeth summarized all initiatives in the Kulturforum.eu he founded. Since the winter semester 2016/17 Michael Nemeth has been a guest lecturer at the Institute for Musicology at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz on the subject of "Musicology in Practice".

Music association for Styria

In 2004, Nemeth became an employee of the Musikverein für Steiermark , founded in 1815 , where he initially worked as a dramaturge and public relations officer. On January 1, 2008 Michael Nemeth was appointed Secretary General and Artistic Director. Since then, more than 500 concerts have taken place in the Stefanien and Chamber Music Hall under Michael Nemeth's direction . The projects include regular guest appearances by the Vienna Philharmonic and music club debuts by Agnes Baltsa , Jonas Kaufmann , Anna Netrebko , Rolando Villazón and Piotr Beczala . Several crossover projects were created with Martin Grubinger , L'Arpeggiata and Konstantin Wecker , and a chamber opera series was also established to promote talented singers. This has been continued since 2016 with a cooperation between the Vienna Philharmonic's Summer Academy to maintain the “Mozart's style”. In 2014/15 the Musikverein celebrated its 200th anniversary with a series of gala concerts and gala evenings. On 64 concert evenings, u. a. Angela Gheorghiu , Zubin Mehta , Philippe Jordan , Ádám Fischer , Diana Damrau , Julia Fischer , Misha Maisky , Sol Gabetta or Cornelius Meister . The highlight of the anniversary year was the performance of Gustav Mahler's Eighth Symphony with 500 participants in the Graz city hall . More recently, the regularly held at the Musikverein concert for ensured human rights media furore. On December 11, 2017, the specially commissioned symphony for human rights was premiered by more than 200 young musicians from all over the world in the Musikverein. Under the motto BRÜCKEN: BUILDING, Michael Nemeth is setting program priorities in his tenth season 2018/19 that dramaturgically connect genres, genres and generations. Festive concerts with honorary members Elīna Garanča , Anna Netrebko and Juan Diego Flórez are at the top of the program, which culminates in a Belcanto festival with Leo Nucci and Maria Mudryak.
