Michael Wallace Banach (born November 19, 1962 in Worcester , Massachusetts , USA ) is a diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Michael Wallace Banach was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Worcester on July 2, 1988 . In 1992 he began preparing for the Diplomatic Corps at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him permanent observer of the Holy See at the United Nations Office in Vienna and United Nations Organization for Industrial Development and Permanent Representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna on January 22, 2007 .

On February 22, 2013, Benedict XVI appointed him. the Titular Archbishop of Memphis and the Apostolic Nuncio . Pope Francis appointed him on April 17th of the same year, before his episcopal ordination , as Apostolic Nuncio in Papua New Guinea . Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone donated him episcopal ordination on April 27, 2013 in Rome. Co-consecrators were the cardinals Marc Ouellet and Fernando Filoni . On May 18, 2013, Pope Francis appointed Banach in addition to the Apostolic Nuncio to the Solomon Islands .

On March 19, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Senegal and Apostolic Delegate in Mauritania . On July 9, 2016, Pope Francis also appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Cape Verde and on August 22 of the same year as Apostolic Nuncio in Guinea-Bissau . On May 13, 2017, his commission in Mauritania was raised to the rank of Apostolic Nuncio.
