Mickledore is a mountain pass in the Lake District National Park in Northern England , which connects the Wasdale and Eskdale valleys . It lies between the two highest mountains in England, the Scafell Pike and the Sca Fell .

Although the way to the rock ridge looks questionable, it can be easily reached and crossed from Scafell Pike. However, access to the summit of Sca Fell is blocked by the infamous rock face known as "Broad Stand" . This rock face, which at first glance does not seem dangerous, is actually difficult to conquer and is particularly dangerous if you attempt to descend. On the English difficulty scale it is rated "D" (= difficult ). The most prominent crash victim is the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge , who impressively described his miraculous rescue after a life-threatening case.

The path over Mickledore is therefore not recommended for hikers looking for a safe route between the summit of Scafell Pike and Sca Fell. A safe route, which however requires a descent well below the height of Mickledore, leads over the Foxes Tarn . The Lord's Rake Route and the way over the West Wall Traverse are more challenging . Lord's Rake has also been described as dangerous since a rock fall in 2001 due to large and unstable boulders and loose gravel, and special care must be taken when climbing advised on this route.
