The Black Sail Pass is a mountain pass in the Lake District , Cumbria , England .
The pass is only crossed by a mule track and can therefore only be reached on foot, by horse or mountain bike . It connects Wasdale in the south with Ennerdale in the north and is bordered by the Pillar in the west and by Kirk Fell in the east.
The Gatherstone Beck rises on the south side of the pass. Sail Beck flows north to the River Liza .
