The Sty Head Pass is a mountain pass in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The pass is at an altitude of 488 m (1600 ft ) and can only be reached on foot.
The pass connects Wasdale with the hamlet of Wasdale Head and Wast Water in the south, with the hamlet of Seathwaite in Borrowdale in the north; roads from Eskdale and Great Langdale also meet this pass.
The pass offers the opportunity to climb Great Gable and Scafell Pike and is also an important retreat in bad weather conditions, where mountain rescue equipment is also available.
The Styhead Tarn is at the north end of the pass.
