The Mirgas district is located in the Antonio Raymondi province in the Ancash region of western Peru . The district was established on October 26, 1964. It has an area of ​​172 km². The 2017 census counted 4290 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5184, in 2007 it was 5235. The district administration is located in the 3175  m high village of Mirgas with 535 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mirgas is located 8.5 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Llamellín .

Geographical location

The Mirgas district is located east of the Cordillera Blanca in the west of the Antonio Raymondi province. The Río Mirgas, the upper reaches of the Río Pañoragra, drains the area in a north-northeast direction to the Río Marañón .

The district of Mirgas borders in the southwest with the district Cajay ( province Huari ), in the west with the district San Nicolas ( province Carlos Fermín Fitzcarrald ), in the northeast with the district Chaccho , in the east with the districts Llamellín and Chingas and in the southeast with the district San Juan de Rontoy .
