action
It's been a year since the beautiful dancer Carola Weber met a man here, under the palm trees on the Mediterranean, whom she helped in a precarious situation. Now she hopes to meet him again at this point. Who else would have sent her three long stemmed dark red roses every day for the past few weeks? - However, the roses do not come from the stranger, but from Richard Doysen, who has been secretly adoring Carola for a long time. Today he finally has the courage to ask the beautiful woman to be his wife. To justify her no, Carola tells him her story.
A little later Richard Doysen meets the man Carola is waiting for in the same hotel: Dr. Cornelius Riehl. The two men sit down at the bar, and now Doysen hears for the second time the story that he had heard from the dancer shortly before. However, in his story there is talk of a tightrope walker.
A flashback describes what happened a year ago: First, the film shows Brigitte Voss, a capricious and playful young lady who always drops into the water at the right time, then to the man she has just cast an eye on, “To be saved”. At that time, Cornelius Riehl was the chosen one. He enjoyed having a little love affair with Brigitte. Brigitte took the opportunity to pull a lot of money out of Cornelius' pocket, but both were happy. However, this suddenly changed when Captain Brodersen appeared, to whom Brigitte had only recently become engaged. To make matters worse, he was also a good friend of Cornelius. He had recently raved to Brodersen about the sweet angel he had met. In this desperate situation, another woman had to come here quickly - and so he came across Carola!
Doysen wants to prevent Carola from realizing the real connections. But for a long time he was unsuccessful: the dancer learns that it was all just a game. A beautiful dream seems to dissolve. But Cornelius, who was impressed by Carola at his first meeting, now, when he sees her again, decides to ask her for her hand. The dancer has already made up her mind to trust Cornelius when suddenly Brigitte appears again and tries to thwart the whole thing. Angry, she drops into the water again. In the end, however, she is unable to prevent her competitor from uniting with Cornelius.
