action

Kommerzienrat Winkler arranged the marriage of his daughter Hanna. There are purely business reasons that drive Winkler to force this marriage on Hanna. The wedding with Baron von Weiningen should take place in two hours . Winkler hopes that this rise to a higher level of society will give his company, which is threatened with bankruptcy , a boost . He speculates on a merger with the Claasen works. The wedding also takes place, but neither Hanna nor her father know that they have been caught by a marriage swindler. Hanna did not marry the baron, but his former valet Anton Piesecke. When the young baron went on a longer stay abroad, Piesecke had brought his papers with him, which was what made this marriage fraud possible. Immediately after the wedding ceremony, Piesecke ran away with a fictitious phone call, but not without first having the agreed larger advance on the inheritance of his wives from the happy father-in-law. Allegedly he is expected on a secret diplomatic mission in London .

At the estate , the young baron, who had just returned from his stay abroad on the day of the wedding, was very astonished when his servants congratulated him and then learned from the newspaper that he was getting married today. He wants to see his bride and goes straight to the registry office . With foresight he wears the uniform of his chauffeur and introduces himself as the chauffeur Emil Müller of the Baron von Weiningen. Since the fake bridegroom had agreed with Winklers that the young baroness should go ahead on her honeymoon with her father and that he would come as soon as possible, Kommerzienrat Winkler and Hanna assume that the baron sent his chauffeur. So this is how you set off on your journey to Baden-Baden . Between Hanna and the elegant "chauffeur" there was a crackling from the start. Privy Councilor Claasen and his wife Daisy have meanwhile arrived at the hotel in Baden-Baden. He found out about Hanna Winkler's marriage to Baron von Weiningen and would like to promote the merger with the Winklers company. Daisy Claasen knows the young baron from before. And someone else who knows Baron von Winkler very well is in Baden-Baden. Baroness von Weiningen, the young baron's aunt, is staying there for a cure . This makes it impossible for the baron to continue his role as a chauffeur. He reveals himself and confesses to Hanna that he fell in love with her the first time she saw her. And it was no different with Hanna.

When Winkler realizes that he has fallen victim to a marriage swindler, his displeasure is short-lived, as the real baron asks him for the hand of his daughter, to whom he is actually already married ...

criticism

“A councilor falls for a swindler whom he takes for a baron. He gives him his cash and his marriageable daughter - but then the real baron shows up and mimes the chauffeur. A lot of confusion that is a bit amusing just because of Adele Sandrock and Viktor de Kowa. "
