Mondie was a band founded in East Berlin in 1979 , which mainly played technically demanding funk music . It consisted successively of different occupations; only the manager was identical. 1983 Mondie broke up again.

Band history

Mondie was founded in the spring of 1979 by the former backing band of the singer Angelika Mann . It consisted of the guitarist and singer Michael Kremer, the bassist Ecke Kremer, the keyboardist Nico Hollmann, the drummer Ringo Stilke and the dancer Tina Schwarzkopf. The name originated from the first letters of the names of the male band members. Shortly afterwards, singer Matthias Kretschmar joined the band. In autumn 1979 Mondie went to Romania - at the same time with the band Silly - to rehearse new pieces and give concerts. The cooperation proved to be difficult. The band gave their GDR premiere concert in East Berlin's Colosseum cinema and parted company shortly afterwards.

The manager Michael Rath wanted to continue the project and was looking for new band members. Hansi Klemm (vocals, guitar, harmonica and percussion) and Thomas Zappa Schmidt (keyboard, electric bass, guitar and background vocals) formed the tribe from 1980 until the band split up. There were also numerous line-up changes. Several Mondie musicians played before or after in renowned bands. Ringo Stilke later played for Bayon . The drummer Hans-Peter Krause was previously a member of the Hansi Biebl Band , from NO 55 and Keks . Percussionist Norbert Jäger came from the star combo Meißen , Robert Albracht had played a vital role in the Blues . Alexander Jereczinsky (keyboard, background vocals) came from the Nautiks . He later played for FWH and Reggae Play , was a composer for Tina Daute and has been the project manager for the MDR radio station MDR Klassik since 2009 . Hansi Klemm himself had previously played in the Klaus Lenz Band and at Fusion .

The band was relatively unsuccessful despite the high demands. During Mondie's existence there was only one GDR record release on a compilation . A single was released in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1982. Among the East German radio productions of Mondie include Marie (1981), Take them by the hand (1982) and Today 'or never (1983). Some live recordings of Mondie were also played on the radio, such as Tempo and Thin Walls. In 1982 a 45 minute long concert recording was shown on GDR television . From March 1983 Mondie appeared frequently with the Stefan Diestelmann Trio . In the summer of 1983, Mondie broke up because the band had offers to play in West Berlin , and this would have torn the band apart anyway, as not all musicians would have received travel permits.
