Monika Medick-Krakow

Monika Medick-Krakau (born May 23, 1946 in Hamburg ; † April 1, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German political scientist with a focus on international relations .

Life

Between 1966 and 1973, Medick-Krakau studied political science, history and sociology at the Philipps University in Marburg , the Friedrich Alexander University in Erlangen and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

After completing her studies, she worked as a research assistant at the Hessian Foundation for Peace and Conflict Research in Frankfurt am Main until 1975 and then until 1979 at the Chair of International Relations at the University of Trier . From 1979 to 1981 Medick-Krakau was employed as a university assistant at the Free University of Berlin . This was followed by a two-year research stay in the USA as part of a post-doctoral fellowship. Between 1983 and 1989 Medick-Krakau worked at the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies in Berlin. She then worked as a research coordinator of the Berlin Program for Advanced German and European Studies at the Free University Berlin before settling in 1992 habilitated .

From 1992 to 1993, Medick-Krakau was the professor for international relations at the University of Konstanz . In autumn 1993 she was appointed professor at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Leipzig . There Medick-Krakau held the chair for international economic relations for three semesters until she accepted a professorship for international relations at the Technical University of Dresden in April 1995 . There she founded the Center for International Studies in 2002 and was its director until 2008. In addition, Medick-Kraków was Vice-Rector for Education between 2001 and 2006 . She had been in early retirement since the 2010 summer semester .

Medick-Krakau was a member of the European Integration Working Group , the German Society for American Studies , the German Society for Political Science , the German Association for Political Science and the German Studies Association.

On April 1, 2011, Medick-Krakau died after a long and serious illness. Her final resting place is in the Lichterfelde cemetery in Berlin. She was married to Knud Krakau , their marriage had a son.
