Interstate 35 , the shortest connection from the Twin Cities to Duluth, runs along the south-eastern outskirts of the city . The Minnesota State Route 73 branches off at the southern end point of the I 35 and then leads through the center of Moose Lake. The Minnesota State Highway 27 , which also passes through the center, reaches its eastern terminus at the next exit off I 35 north. All other roads are subordinate and partly unpaved roads as well as inner-city connecting roads.
A rail trail runs through the urban area of Moose Lake on the route of a former railway line of the SOO Line Railroad .
