The Municipio Cobija is a district in the Pando Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Cobija is one of four Municipios of the Nicolás Suárez Province and includes its central northern area. It borders the Municipio Bolpebra to the west, the Municipio Porvenir to the south , and the Republic of Brazil to the east and north .

The municipality extends between about 10 ° 59 'and 11 ° 08' south latitude and 68 ° 47 'and 69 ° 00' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 25 kilometers and from north to south up to 15 kilometers .

The municipality comprises nineteen municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Cobija with 42,849 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the northeast corner of the district on the border river Río Acre opposite the Brazilian city of Brasiléia .

The Municipio Cobija is located in the southwestern part of the Amazon basin and is characterized by a humid tropical climate.
