The Municipio Padilla is a district in the Chuquisaca Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia . The municipality was founded as "San Miguel de la Laguna" in 1583.

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Padilla is one of five Municipios of the Tomina Province and includes its eastern area. It borders in the north with the province of Belisario Boeto , and in the north-west with the municipality Tomina , in the west with the municipality Villa Alcalá , in the southwest with the municipality El Villar , in the south with the province Hernando Siles , in the east with the province Luis Calvo , and in the northeast to the Santa Cruz Department .

The municipality extends approximately between 19 ° 09 'and 19 ° 40' south latitude and 63 ° 57 'and 64 ° 25' west longitude, its extension from west to east is up to 40 kilometers, from north to south up to 55 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 130 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Padilla with 3,314 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the western part of the district.

The Municipio Padilla is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central and the Bolivian lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 18 ° C (see Padilla climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June and July and around 20 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is around 650 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 10 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.
