The Municipio San Miguel is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of San Miguel is one of three Municipalities of José Miguel de Velasco Province , bordered to the west by the Ñuflo de Chávez Province , on the south by the Chiquitos Province , in the southeast on the municipality of San Rafael , and to the northeast and east by the municipality of San Ignacio de Velasco .
The municipality stretches between about 16 ° 12 'and 17 ° 19' south latitude and 60 ° 44 'and 61 ° 50' west longitude, its extent from west to east and from north to south is up to 120 kilometers.
The municipality comprises sixty municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the small town of San Miguel with 3,464 inhabitants in the central eastern part of the district. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of San Miguel is located in the Bolivian lowlands in the Chiquitanía region , a partially untouched landscape between Santa Cruz and the Brazilian border.
The region's climate is a semi-humid climate of the warm tropics . The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly over the course of the year between 20.8 ° C in June and 26.8 ° C in October, with an almost constant 26 ° C between September and March. The annual mean temperature is 24.5 ° C (see San Ignacio climate diagram).
The long-term average annual rainfall is 1257 mm. Three quarters of the precipitation falls in the rainy season from November to March, while in the dry season in the arid months of June, July and August there is hardly any 30 mm per month.

The literacy rate among those over the age of 15 had risen from 77.8 percent (1992) to 85.5 percent in 2001. The life expectancy of newborns was 68.0 years, and infant mortality had fallen from 5.6 percent (1992) to 4.6 percent in 2001.
99.7 percent of the population speak Spanish , 0.7 percent speak Quechua , 0.1 percent each Aymara and Guaraní , and 4.2 percent speak other indigenous languages. (2001)
69.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 17.4 percent live without sanitary facilities (2001) .
59.5 percent of 1,873 households own a radio, 22.3 percent a television, 53.6 percent a bicycle, 5.2 percent a motorcycle, 4.8 percent a car, 8.3 percent a refrigerator, and 2.7 percent Percent a phone. (2001)
