The Muráň is a 42.9 km long river in the middle of Slovakia and a right tributary of the Slaná .

The river rises in the Muránska planina (German Muraner Plateau) below the Predná Hora saddle at the 2nd order road 531 between Muráň and Muránska Huta . After initially flowing south-west in the karst area below Muráň Castle , the river near Muráň, below Ostrý vrch ( 730  m nm ), bends south-east and then flows south-south-east to south-east, parallel to 2nd order road 532 and the Plešivec railway line –Muráň . On its way from Muráň the river touches the mountains Stolické vrchy , behind Muránska Dlhá Lúka it flows in the valley within the mountain range Revúcka vrchovina . In Revúca, the Muráň takes up the left-hand Zdychava , touches the Miková reservoir between Mokrá Lúka and Revúcka Lehota , before the left-hand Mníšanský potok flows into the river at Lubeník . The Jordan also comes from the left, south of Jelšava . At Gemerské Teplice , below the massif of Muteň ( 466  m nm ), the direction changes to the south along places like Šivetice , Hucín and Licince . At the same time, the Rimavská kotlina basin , part of the larger Juhoslovenská kotlina , is reached. Behind Meliata, the Muráň meanders in a small breakthrough before flowing into the Slaná immediately south of Bretka .
