Hucín (Hungarian Gice ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 937 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Revúca , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj , and is located in the traditional Gemer landscape .

Place view

The village is located in the western part of the Slovak Karst on a small plateau in the valley of the Rybník stream , just before its confluence with the Muráň . The center of the village is at an altitude of 238  m nm and is nine kilometers from Jelšava , 20 kilometers from Revúca and 29 kilometers from Rožňava .

Neighboring municipalities are Gemerské Teplice in the north, Gemerský Sad in the northeast, Gemerská Hôrka in the east, Licince in the south and Šivetice in the west.

history

The place Hucín already existed in the 12th and 13th centuries, but was only mentioned in writing as Gyuche for the first time in 1327 . In 1338 a parish is documented. In 1427 there were a total of 32 portals in Hucín owned by the Giczey family, who came from this place . In the 17th century the place came to the Czékus family and partly also to Fáy through marriage . In 1828 there were 76 houses and 551 inhabitants who lived mainly from agriculture, but also worked as lime burners, potters and manufacturers of tobacco pipes.

Until 1918, the place in Gemer and Kleinhont County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia, or now Slovakia. 1938-45 he was again in Hungary because of the First Vienna Arbitration .

population

According to the 2011 census, there were 877 inhabitants in Hucín, including 391 Roma, 235 Slovaks, 167 Magyars and five Czechs. 79 residents gave no answer. 149 residents supported the Reformed Church, 109 residents the Roman Catholic Church, 70 residents the Jehovah's Witnesses, 26 residents the Evangelical Church AB, ten residents the Greek Catholic Church, five residents the Old Catholic Church, three residents the Evangelical Methodist Church and two residents to the Czechoslovak-Hussite Church. 412 residents had no denomination and the denomination of 91 residents was not determined.
