Gemerské Teplice is a municipality in Slovakia . It was created in 1964 by the merger of the communities Gemerský Milhosť (Hungarian Migleszpataka ) and Jelšavská Teplica (German Teplitz , Hungarian Jolsvatapolca ).
Until 1918 the previous communities belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . They came back to Hungary for a short time from 1938 to 1945 through the First Vienna Arbitration .
The Slovak poet and writer Samo Tomášik was born in Jelšavská Teplica in 1813 .
