Gemerská Ves (Hungarian Gömörfalva ) is a municipality in the center of Slovakia with 1005 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which belongs to the Okres Revúca , a district of the Banskobystrický kraj and is located in the traditional Gemer landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the southeastern part of the Slovak Ore Mountains at the transition to the Juhoslovenská kotlina basin , at the confluence of the Turiec and Východný Turiec . The town center is located at an altitude of 197 m nm and is nine kilometers from Tornaľa and 31 kilometers from Revúca .
Administratively, the municipality is divided into parts of the municipality Hrkáč and Šankovce.
Neighboring municipalities are Leváre and Licince in the north, Meliata in the northeast, Gemer in the east, Levkuška in the south, Rašice in the southwest and Polina in the west.
history
The municipality Gemerská Ves was created in 1960 through the merger of Hrkáč (Hungarian Harkács ) and Šankovce (Hungarian Sánkfalva ).
Hrkáč was first mentioned in writing in 1274 as Harkach and developed from an older settlement. In 1423 there were ten portals here . In 1828 there were 53 houses and 431 inhabitants who were employed in agriculture.
Šankovce was first mentioned in writing in 1266 as Raas . In 1427 the Sánkfalvy and Husz families lived here . In the 15th century, the village was divided into an upper and a lower part and temporarily belonged to the provost of Jossau . In the 16th century, the inhabitants fled from the advancing Ottomans, but the village was quickly repopulated. In the 18th century it belonged to the Steinicher and Draskóczy families . In 1828 there were 61 houses and 474 inhabitants who were also employed in agriculture.
Until 1918, the places in Gemer and Kleinhont counties belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to Czechoslovakia and now Slovakia. Due to the First Vienna Arbitration , they were again in Hungary in 1938-45.

According to the 2011 census, Gemerská Ves had 952 inhabitants, including 543 Magyars, 256 Slovaks and 102 Roma. 51 residents gave no answer. 751 residents committed to the Roman Catholic Church, 38 residents to the Reformed Church, 15 residents to the Evangelical Church AB, 14 residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, three residents to the Evangelical Methodist Church, two residents to the Greek Catholic Church and one resident each to the evangelistic church and the Czechoslovak-Hussite church. 67 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 60 inhabitants has not been determined.
