Mustafa Zazai (born May 9, 1993 in Kabul , Afghanistan ) is a German- Afghan soccer player who works for Kelantan FA (Malaysia) and the Afghan national team.

Life

Zazai was born on May 9, 1993 in Kabul , the capital of Afghanistan. At the age of seven, he fled to Germany with his family and initially spent three years in the Free State of Bavaria before moving to Hamburg in northern Germany . Here Zazai completed his Abitur in 2012 at the Johannes Brahms High School in Hamburg-Bramfeld . He currently lives in Hamburg and stayed there when he played for VfB Lübeck.

Club career

youth

Zazai began his career in 2002 at the age of eight with SpVgg Roßstadt in the small town of Eltmann in Lower Franconia . After the family moved to Hamburg, he played for the Hamburg district club Bramfelder SV . In 2006 he switched to the youth team at Hamburger SV . Here he played in the 2008/09 season in the B-Junioren-Bundesliga North / Northeast under the former soccer player Markus von Ahlen and was able to achieve 6th place with the team. For the 2009/10 season he moved to Concordia Hamburg , where he played in the first year in the U-17 Regional League North and was promoted to the A-Junior team in the U-19 Regional League North / Northeast for the 2010/11 season. Here Zazai earned the reputation of a goalscorer. Already successful in the regional league, he was able to improve again after his move to VfB Lübeck for the 2011/12 season and score 20 goals.

His goals and achievements aroused the interest of various clubs, u. a. that of the Bundesliga clubs FC St. Pauli , Hamburger SV , VfL Wolfsburg and the third division club 1. FC Saarbrücken . Nevertheless, in February 2012 he signed a contract with VfB Lübeck until June 30, 2013 for the first team. In addition, Zazai was already used as an A-youth in the second team playing in the fifth-class Schleswig-Holstein League ; He made his first appearance on September 17, 2011 (6th matchday) in a 2-0 defeat against Holstein Kiel II . In total, the German-Afghan made eight appearances at VfB Lübeck II until 2013 and scored a goal against TSV Kropp to make it 3-0.

Men's area

In February 2012, Zazai signed a one-year contract with VfB Lübeck until June 30, 2013 with an option for a further year. For the 2012/13 season, the 19-year-old was pulled up into the regional league team of VfB Lübeck. He made his debut there on August 5, 2012 (1st matchday) in the 0-1 defeat against VfR Neumünster , when he came on for Vassilis Vallianos in the 59th minute. By the winter break, the offensive midfielder had played 14 games and scored a goal in the 2-1 win against FC Oberneuland when he took the 1-0 lead in the first minute. In the winter break of 2012/13, insolvency proceedings were started against the club, as a result of which all games were canceled and the club had to be relegated to the Schleswig-Holstein League . Other games were only played as friendlies, so no game was officially registered. In total, Zazai completed 23 games in the 2012/13 season and scored three goals.

After he was already in the second half of the season as a test player u. a. played at Hamburger SV II , Zazai left the club for the 2013/14 season and joined the league rivals FC St. Pauli II . He made his debut in the Kiezkicker dress on August 4, 2013, the first match day of the season, in the 0: 4 defeat against VfL Wolfsburg II ; he came on as a substitute for Erdogan Pini in the 69th minute. At St. Pauli, he was able to assert himself early on as a regular player in the attacking midfield and was regularly used until the 2014/15 season. In the 2015/16 season, however, he often just sat on the bench without being substituted on. Zazai only made eight appearances and one goal against BV Cloppenburg in the first half of the season . That is one of the reasons why he terminated his contract with the Kiezklub in December 2015.

Initially, a move abroad was planned. However, the Afghan did not find a new employer, which is why he initially remained without a club for half a year. During this time he got involved socially. At the beginning of June 2016 it was announced that Zazai had signed a one-year contract with regional division TSG Neustrelitz for the 2016/17 season until June 30, 2017 with an option for another year. Right from the start he prevailed as a regular player and was soon named captain of the team. At the end of September, however, he injured his adductors before he was out for the rest of the year from the end of October due to a broken ankle. In the second half of the season he was unable to prevail again as a regular, but mostly shuttled between the starting eleven and the bench. At the end of the season they rose from bottom of the table in the Oberliga Nordost ; Zazai played 16 league games and one game in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup .

National team

At the beginning of May 2014, Zazai was nominated by national coach Erich Rutemöller in the squad for the upcoming AFC Challenge Cup . He made his debut in the national jersey on May 14, 2014 in the preparatory game against Kuwait (2: 3). Afghanistan finished fourth in the Challenge Cup, and Zazai appeared in all five games. The midfielder scored his first goal against Cambodia on June 16, 2015 ; his 1-0 winning goal gave Afghanistan their first ever victory in a World Cup qualification . Zazai was nominated for the 2015 South Asian Cup , where Afghanistan competed as defending champions. The national team reached the final against India , which was lost with 1: 2 nV. Zazai was used in four games, only in the second group game against Bhutan (3-0) he was spared.
