Nasum was a Swedish grindcore band that was formed in 1992. The group was one of the most successful metal bands in Sweden. Nasum's career came to an unexpected end after the death of singer and guitarist Mieszko Talarczyk , who was one of the victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean in late 2004 .
Band history
Nasum was founded in 1992 in Örebro as a side project by Necrony members Anders Jakobson (guitar, bass) and Rickard Alriksson (drums, vocals). The first recording was in 1993 a split - single with the Belgian grindcore band Agathocles . A year after it was founded, Mieszko Talarczyk joined the band as a singer and guitarist. After Alriksson left, Jakobson switched to drums and Nasum acted as a duo for several years . Several demo recordings followed and in 1995 the EP Industrislaven , in which Dan Swanö participated. 1997 Nasum was signed by Relapse Records and released the debut album Inhale / Exhale . After a bassist was found in Burst's Jesper Liveröd , the band went on tour to the USA .
After Talarczyk took over the studio technology from Dan Swanös Unisound Studio , he set up his own recording studio called Soundlab , where the following Nasum recordings were produced . In 2000 the album Human 2.0 was released ( Human 2.01 in Japan ). On the next album Helvete , guest musicians such as Shane Embury from Napalm Death and Jörgen Sandström (ex- Grave ) were involved. In 2004 the fourth album Shift was released . Singer Mieszko Talarczyk was reported missing after the seaquake in Southeast Asia on December 26, 2004 . On February 17, 2005, Mieszko Talarczyk was pronounced dead and the remaining members announced the end of Nasum. In January 2006 a double CD was released with the title Grind Finale , which, in addition to the almost complete discography, contained other previously unreleased titles. Also after the dissolution, the live album Doombringer was released in 2008 .
To mark the 20th anniversary of Nasum, the band will tour North America in May 2012 and appear at European festivals such as the Graspop Metal Meeting , With Full Force , Wacken Open Air and Obscene Extreme in the summer of that year . Keijo Niinimaa von Rotten Sound will appear as a guest singer .
Style and texts
Unlike in his former band Necrony, Jakobson's lyrics were political in nature. Musically, Nasum initially leaned on the grindcore of early Napalm Death and combined the music with straightforward political statements. The musical style of the band was also compared to Carcass , although they sometimes fell into the monotony typical of Grindcore.
