1956 NBA draft

The 1956 NBA Draft took place on April 30th in New York City . The most famous player in this draft was Bill Russell of the University of San Francisco . The draft consisted of 12 rounds. Tom Heinsohn was drafted as a territorial pick by the Boston Celtics , who later also got the rights to Bill Russell through a trade with the St. Louis Hawks . The future all-star "Easy" Ed Macauley was also involved in this trade .
