The NHL Player of the Year was an ice hockey award in the National Hockey League for Best Player of the Year.

It was first awarded as Dodge Performer of the Year in 1985 . The automobile company Dodge sponsored the trophy. From the 1984/85 season through the 1989/90 season , Dodge was also a sponsor of the NHL Player of the Week and NHL Player of the Month .

For the 1990/91 season , Pro Set , a manufacturer of trading cards, sponsored Dodge for the player of the week, month and year. In the two years up to the 1991/92 season , the Pro Set / NHL Player of the Year was honored.

The Player of the Week and Month award continued in the later years, but the Player of the Year award was discontinued.
