The NSU 13/40 PS was an upper middle class passenger car that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built in 1911 and 1912. At the time, the model was the largest car in the manufacturer's model range.

The water-cooled engine was a four-cylinder block engine with a displacement of 3768 cm³ (bore × stroke = 100 × 120 mm), which made 40 hp (29 kW) at 1800 rpm. Soon after its appearance, the engine was reduced in size: It now had a displacement of 3397 cm³ (bore × stroke = 100 × 120 mm), but its performance remained the same. Both engines had triple bearing crankshafts, double ignition ( magnet and battery ), pressure circulating lubrication and counter-controlled valves . The fuel tank was in the back. The fuel was conveyed through the exhaust gases, with part of the exhaust gases being led into the tightly closed tank, creating a slight overpressure there and thus ensuring that the fuel flowed forward to the carburetor. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, a four-speed gearbox with a link shift on the right and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the cars was 3200 mm, their track width was 1375 mm and the weight was 1350 kg. The top speed was around 75 km / h.

In 1912 the 13/35 hp replaced the model.
