The NSU 5/15 PS was a small car that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built from 1914 to 1918 and then, after the First World War , again from 1921 to 1925.

The 5/15 PS was the successor to the small car 5/12 PS and came onto the market a few months before the First World War.

The engine was a four-cylinder in- line engine with a displacement of 1232 cm³ (bore × stroke = 70 mm × 78 mm), which made 15 HP (11 kW) at 1800 1 / min. The engine already had pressure lubrication and a magneto ignition with automatic ignition adjustment. The crankshaft had three bearings. The power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a leather cone clutch, a three-speed gearbox that could be shifted in the interior and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the car was 2420 mm, its track width 1150 mm and its weight: approx. 900 kg, depending on the structure. The maximum speed was 60 km / h.

The 5/15 hp was available as an open touring car with two or three seats, a double phaeton , a delivery van or the “Taube” limousine (with a removable hard top ).

After the turmoil of World War I and the subsequent period, the 5/15 PS appeared in a new form in 1921: Its wheelbase had grown to 2496 mm while the external dimensions remained the same and it had the then ultra-modern pointed radiator. The new engine had a displacement of 1231 cm³ (bore × stroke = 60 mm × 90 mm) and developed 21 hp (15.4 kW) at 2100 rpm. The dry leather cone clutch had given way to a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath and the internal gearbox had four forward gears.

By 1925, over 2500 copies of the car, popular in difficult times, were built. The successor was the 5/25 hp model .

  2. The structure of the car was so narrow that two people could not sit next to each other. The driver's seat was therefore installed at the front on the right, while the left passenger seat was moved back. A third seat was installed behind the driver's seat, which was again offset to the right of the front passenger seat.
