action

Naked animals shows five young friends who are friends and try to cope with everyday life together. Katja, Sascha, Benni, Laila and Schöller grow up in nowhere in the province. The driver's license is the key to freedom and therefore also to recognition. The interplay of mutual attraction and demarcation, of closeness and distance, violence, love and loneliness characterize the relationships between the five young people, for whom closeness also means pain. Katja, a ju-jutsu martial artist, is 17 and is constantly struggling against her own weakness.

All five want to hold onto their peer group , their family of friends, in which they live according to their own rules. In the safety of the group they believe they can conquer the world and with their support they can withstand punches without batting an eyelid. But they only have one winter together until they graduate from school, until they have to make the choice of staying in their place or moving to the next larger city. The pain of separation is in the room, the departure into a still unknown world. For Katja it will be a painful and bloody farewell.

It is true that Naked Animals shows growing up as a time when invincibility still seems possible through the support of the group. But this phase is under the sword of Damocles, its end soon, because new challenges are pending.

Melanie Waelde said of Naked Animals that it was a film “that functions like a feeling, a memory and a vision of the future. A film that is where it hurts. Where the heart beats. Where we make ourselves vulnerable and at the same time try not to be. ”In a specific location, the film tells the metaphorical space of the transition from youth to adulthood and deals with violence, isolation, loneliness and inevitable pain.
