Naoto Tobe (born March 31, 1992 ) is a Japanese high jumper .

Athletic career

Naoto Tobe gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships in 2008 in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where he finished tenth in the final with 2.08 m. The following year he finished fourth at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong with a skipped 2.14 m. In 2010 he won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Moncton with 2.21 m. In 2011 he was at the Asian Championships in Kobe with 2.21 m fifth and retired at the Summer Universiade in Shenzhen with 2.00 m in the qualification. Two years later he was ninth with 2.20 m at the Universiade in Kazan . The following year he took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea for the first time and finished fifth with 2.25 m. In 2015 he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 2.26 m in qualification . In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he won the bronze medal behind the Chinese Wang Yu and Woo Sang-hyeok from South Korea with 2.24 m .

In 2019 Tobe won the bronze medal behind the Syrian Majd Eddin Ghazal and his compatriot Takashi Etō at the Asian Championships in Doha with a 2.26 m jump . He also qualified for the World Championships there in October, where he was eliminated with 2.26 m in qualification .

In 2011, 2015 and 2019, Tobe became the Japanese high jump champion.
